Create a Safety Plan
A crisis may come upon you again and if that happens, it is vital to take the correct course of action to keep yourself safe. Developing a safety plan, a written plan of action, that you can refer to can help you overcome suicidal thoughts and get you to safety. This plan is a checklist of actions such as:
- Contacting your doctor, therapist, or crisis center to help you cope with suicidal thoughts
- Try specific healthy and enjoyable activities when negative thoughts start to intrude
- Call a friend or family member who can help you through the suicidal thoughts.
Be sure to learn what your warning signs are so you can spot them early and refer to your safety plan.
